Description
The Alocasia Frydek variegata is a rare plant with beautiful deep green leaves and variegated spots. The striking, white-green veins almost seem to glow. The plant is also called ‘Alocasia Green Velvet’, because of the velvety foliage. It is a special plant and therefore only available to a limited extent!
The Alocasia originates from the Philippines and grows there in the low-lying parts of the tropical rainforests. Fun fact: Alocasia Frydek is the official name of this variegated plant, while the green version is often sold under the name Frydek. The green variant of this plant is named officially the Alocasia Micholitziana. A botanical researcher accidentally named the green Alocasia Micholitziana ‘Frydek’. These plants have been confused with each other ever since. With this variant you have the official Alocasia Frydek in your hands, with variegata.
The variegated parts of this plant are very fragile. To keep the variegaton of the plant nice and stable, it is important to keep the humidity relatively high (between 60 and 70%). In a place with a lot of indirect light, this plant will quickly grow taller! A spot by the window facing north or a meter from the east is perfect. Make sure that this Alocasia Frydek variegata gets time to get used to the light. Make sure that the soil remains slightly moist, because too much or too little water will cause the stems to droop and die.
