The Calathea is known for its colourful foliage. The plant is commonly referred to as prayer plant as a result of the movements it makes. Its leaves fold up during the evening, and open up again by morning. The similarity of this movement to that of praying hands inspired the Calathea’s nickname.

The Calathea is an air purifying plant that removes toxins from the air, and breaks them down through the roots. Place the Calathea’s in a light or semi shady spot, clear of direct sunlight. Make sure the potting soil is always mildly moist, but not wet. It’s best to water the plant regularly, and to give small amounts of water each time. Just enough to moisten the potting soil.
